Notion Formulas Just Got an Upgrade
Notion recently rolled out a new AI integration built directly into the formula editor, available wherever formulas can be used β including database properties, buttons, database buttons, and database automations.
What the New Notion AI Formula Editor Can Help With
By entering a simple or more complex prompt, Notion AI can now directly help by:
- Explaining formulas in plan language.
- Adding line-by-line comments to clarify each step.
- Fixing common syntax issues like typos, missing parentheses, etc.
- Writing entire formulas from scratch.
This means you no longer have to jump back and forth between Notion and ChatGPT (or another AI tool), or copy and paste between different apps to refine a formula.
Current Limitations & Things to Keep in Mind
While itβs an impressive new feature, itβs still not perfect in every way:
- Available only on business and enterprise plans with Notion AI enabled.
- No support for iterative logic or random generations (e.g. using a
random()
function). - Doesnβt retain or remember previous prompts.
- May alter working parts of a formula even when not requested β keeping a backup is recommended.
- Explanations can sometimes be slightly inaccurate or confusing.
Iβm definitely not an AI hype guy and lean more towards being skeptical, but this feature is genuinely impressive and will definitely make formulas a lot more accessible for Notion users.
