Notion GIF Icons
Animated GIF icons are a great way to add a little fun and a visual highlight to your Notion pages.
Notion supports the upload of GIF animations for all pages and databases and the moving icons will be visible on both the page itself, as well as in the Notion navigation sidebar.

Where to Find the Best GIF Icons for Notion
Google is my favorite starting point to look for animated icons for Notion, because it allows you search and filter the entire internet for animated GIF icons in just a few steps:
- Open the Google image search and type your keyword into the search bar, e.g. “pokemon pixel art icon”.
- On the results page click on Tools, then on Color to select Transparent, and on Type to select GIF.

How to Add a GIF Icon to Notion
To add a GIF image as page icon in Notion, simply scroll to the top of the page, click on 🙂 Add icon and open the Custom tab. Then you can either upload the GIF image file by clicking on Upload file, or paste an image link from any website into the input field and press Submit.
Notion GIF Covers
To give a Notion page a special atmosphere, you can even add an animated Notion header GIF image to it.
This allows you to upload animated logos and letterings, as well as scenic backdrops for an immersive visual experience to take you into your zone.
Where to Find the Best GIF Covers for Notion
The classic Google image search is the way to go for finding endless animated header images. Simply follow these steps:
- Open the Google image search, type your keyword into the search bar, followed by the word “wallpaper”, e.g. “sci-fi pixel art wallpaper”.
- On the results page click on Tools, then on Size to select Large, and on Type to select GIF.
The following results page will be full of amazing images that you can directly add to your Notion page. Pinterest is also a great place to search for Notion covers in the same way.
Animated pixel art wallpapers look absolutely amazing as Notion banner GIF images and I highly recommend you to add “pixel art” as a keyword to your search phrases!
How to Add a GIF Cover to Notion
To add a GIF image as page cover in Notion, simply scroll to the top of the page and click on 🖼️ Add cover, then hover over the cover image and click on Change cover.
Now you can either upload the GIF image file in the Upload tab by clicking on Upload file, or paste an image link from any website into the input field in the Link tab and press Submit.
To move the uploaded Notion cover image, simply hover over the image and click on Reposition, then drag the image up and down.
Notion GIF Page Images & Dividers
You can also embed GIFs as regular images on your Notion pages, using them for decoration or as visual dividers between different sections.
Where to Find the Best GIF Images for Notion Pages
Google is always my favorite point to start my search, as it often leads me to bigger collections of images that fit together nicely.
- Open the Google image search and type your keyword into the search bar, e.g. “colorful divider”.
- On the results page click on Tools, then on Type to select GIF.
Pinterest is another great resource for finding beautiful and aesthetic animated images of all kind.
How to Add GIF Images to a Notion Page
Adding a GIF image as a block to your Notion page works exactly as for any other image. Simply type /image
or just /i
at the beginning of a new block, press enter, and then click on Add an image in the new image block.
Now you can either upload the GIF image file in the Upload tab by clicking on Upload file, or paste an image link from any website into the input field in the Embed link tab and press Submit.
You can also browse the GIPHY library to find and embed a suitable GIF image directly by clicking on the GIPHY tab.
Optimizing GIF Images for Notion
How to Crop Any GIF Image
You can easily remove unwanted space around or cut out specific portions of your animated GIF image using Ezgif. This feature proves particularly handy for removing empty space around icons intended for your Notion pages.
Simply go to the Ezgif crop function page, upload your image, select the area to crop, and press the Crop image! button.

How to Remove the Background Color from Any GIF Image
You found the perfect GIF icon for your Notion page, but it comes with a background color that you would rather get rid of? No problem!
Go to the Ezgif effects function page, upload your image, select the background color you want to remove in the “Replace color with transparency” menu box, and press the Apply selected! button.
