Fonts play a key role in both the styling and readability of any written content, and choosing the right font style and size can enhance how your information is presented.
In this tutorial, you will learn all about the different options for changing the font style and size on your Notion pages.
How to Change the Font Style in Notion
The Default Font Options
Notion provides three font styles to choose from for your pages:
- Default: Standard sans-serif font that works well for most use cases.
- Serif: Traditional serif font, perfect for written content and publications.
- Mono: Monospaced font, ideal for drafting and note-taking.
To change the font, open the page menu by clicking the ••• symbol in the top right corner.
At the top of the menu, you’ll find the option to switch the font with just one click.

How to Change the Default Font on All Pages?
Unfortunately, there is currently no way to change the default font style for all Notion pages at once.
How to Use Custom Fonts in Notion
Add Custom Fonts using TeX Commands
Notion allows the use of TeX commands for creating math equations, both as standalone blocks and inline, which you can also use to customize font types and styles on your Notion pages in a hacky way.
2.5
You can add a TeX command to your Notion pages in two ways:
- Standalone Math Equation Block:
Add a new math equation block to your Notion page by typing
/math
at the beginning of a new block and pressing enter. Now enter the TeX command into the block and click on the Done ↵ button or press enter. - Inline Text:
To insert a TeX command within any text block, enclose the command with double
$$
symbols. For this to work, you need to manually type the final$
symbol. Example:$$\mathscr{Your~Text}$$
Here’s a list of possible font types and their corresponding TeX commands you can use in Notion:
- Bold Font:
\mathbf{Your~Text}
- Italic Font:
\mathit{Your~Text}
- Typewriter Font:
\mathtt{Your~Text}
- Calligraphic Font:
\mathcal{Your~Text}
- Script Font:
\mathscr{Your~Text}
- Fraktur Font:
\mathfrak{Your~Text}
- Blackboard Font:
\mathbb{Your~Text}
Replace Your~Text
with the text you want to format and use ~
to enter spaces.
Copy & Paste from a Fancy Text Generator
Notion also allows you to copy and paste text from so called "fancy text generators," which are websites that let you format text in various font styles.
You can find one of these fancy text generators here.

Notion Font Changer Browser Extension
If you're using Notion in a browser instead of the desktop app for Mac or Windows, you can install a browser extension that lets you choose from various fonts and change the font across the entire Notion app.
You can download the Notion Font Changer browser extension for Chrome, Edge, Brave, or Opera from the Chome Web Store.

How to Change the Font Size in Notion
Smaller Text with Just One Click
Notion has a built-in feature to make all the text on a page smaller.
To use it, open the page menu by clicking the ••• symbol in the top right corner and toggle on the "Small text" option.
Just like the font style setting, this option is page-specific and needs to be applied individually to each page.

Bigger Text Using Heading Blocks
In addition to the default text block, Notion offers built-in heading blocks.
This is how you add them to your page:
- Heading 1: Type
/h1
or#
and press enter. - Heading 2: Type
/h2
or##
and press enter. - Heading 3: Type
/h3
or###
and press enter.

You can also turn an existing text block into a heading block. Simply open the ⠿ block menu, click on 🔄️ Turn into, and select a heading block option.
Zoom In & Out to Adjust the Font Size Across Notion
If you want to increase the overall font size in Notion, including page content, menus, sidebar, and tabs, you can use the following keyboard shortcuts to zoom in and out, just like you would in your browser:

Zoom Out: Ctrl / Cmd ⌘ + -

How to Change the Font Color & Background
When you highlight a section of text, the text settings menu will appear, giving you options to apply various styles and formats.
You can choose from bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, and inline code
, as well as change the font color or background color.
This applies to both text and heading blocks.

How to Change the Font in a Notion Database
When working in a database instead of a page, you'll notice that the settings menu, accessible by clicking the ••• symbol in the top right corner, does not include options to change the font style or size.
However, there is still a way to adjust the font style and size for a database by using an inline database or a linked database view.
Both options allow you to place a database on a regular Notion page, where the font settings mentioned earlier will also apply to the database.
How to Change the Font Size in the Mobile Notion App
The page settings for changing the font style and size mentioned in this tutorial are currently not available in the Notion app on smartphones, iPhones, and iPads.
You can try to change the general text size within your phone’s settings, but not all parts of the Notion app might respond to these changes.
Now that you know how to adjust fonts in Notion, you can personalize your workspace and improve the readability of your content with ease.
